LTLE 570 - ILOThe topic of accessibility was relevant again in the creation of the artifact for an interactive learning object. Creating video tutorials for my students, I’ve always been keenly aware of the need for captioning, not only for ESL speakers, but also because being online and not face-to-face can sometimes be a barrier with technical issues. This project allowed me to expand on what I’ve learned about captioning in Camtasia Studio 8. After the peer review, I fixed issues with the navigation and embedding of YouTube videos.
The artifact is reflective of AECT professional standard 2 because already having the knowledge of captioning in Camtasia Studio 8, I “reflected” on the practice in order to “facilitate learning” in others (AECT Standard 3). |

LTLE 570 - PodcastFor the podcast assignment, I addressed my “One Minute How-to” to librarians. The field of librarianship is constantly evolving and my current position is a perfect example of this. It’s becoming more about technology than books. Embracing that technology and experimenting with it is one of the main reasons I decided to take LTLE 570. This project gave me the chance to show my experience in voice narration and scripting. After the peer review, I found a better piece of background music and tweaked the audio points In Audacity. It was definitely a challenge to edit until the podcast met the time requirement!
The artifact is reflective of AECT professional standard 1 because I demonstrated the “knowledge necessary to create, use, assess, and manage theoretical and practical applications of educational technologies,” and standard 3 because I “facilitate[d] learning by creating, using, evaluating, and managing effective learning environment” for librarian peers. |

LTLE 570 - Video/CamtasiaFor the video/Camtasia project, I decided to address the topic of searching library databases. Because this is a practice librarians are used to completing every day, I thought it was important to delve deeper and develop a step-by-step video tutorial to demonstrate this in a simple, “getting started” way. As I often use Camtasia in my work, I was able to develop the plan for the video by writing a script and cues. After piecing it together and receiving the peer review feedback, I went back and re-recorded the narration and fixed a couple of misplaced call-outs and a missing screencast. Though I am proficient in Camtasia Studio 8, I usually let a project “rest” for several days, so I can go back to it with fresh eyes. Another challenge was the emphasis placed on the need for live video and miscommunications that followed because of a technical issue with Canvas email.
The artifact is reflective of AECT professional standard 1 because I demonstrated the creation and use of an educational technology and standard 3 because the artifact can be used to “facilitate learning” for faculty and students. |
LTLE 570 - Adobe Captivate Project For the Adobe Captivate project, I again decided to address captioning. Working with Camtasia for the past couple of semesters and captioning all of my videos, I’ve found that I prefer captioning in Camtasia rather than in YouTube. Several software updates ago, captions would automatically export to YouTube when uploading the video. When that changed, I captioned several videos in YouTube and eventually found a way around it because of my preference to caption in Camtasia. During this project, I found the process to learn Captivate challenging. After the peer review and final feedback from the instructor, I decided to take out an important slide- the learning interaction- which contained content that the quiz questions relied on. With more time I could figure out why the peer reviewer and instructor could not see the learning interaction, and I and others I sent the link to could. I re-organized my slides and changed the quiz questions to reflect this. I also re-worked the theme to create a more cohesive visual approach to the project.
The artifact is reflective of AECT professional standard 1 because I demonstrated “practical application” of a particular educational technology and standard 3 because the artifact can be used to “facilitate learning.” I will be using the project as a basis for an asynchronous training for librarian colleagues who have asked for input on creating video tutorials. |
